
Huskies Offense Comes Alive in 12-9 Win Over Saint Joseph’s

Freshman Bradley Gilbert made his Washington debut and earned the start, pitching 2.2 innings with four hits allowed, three runs, two strikeouts, and one walk. Isaac Yeager took over in the third inning and ultimately was credited with the win after pitching 2.2 innings while allowing only one run and striking out three.
On offense, Washington couldn't be stopped. The Huskies tallied 10 hits on the day, with multiple runs coming in four separate innings.
Cooper Whitton opened the scoring with his first hit of the season, a two RBI single in the top of the second inning. Sam DeCarlo and Colton Bower chipped in two more RBIs in the fourth to put Washington back in front after Saint Joseph's took a 3-2 lead in the third.
Julian Sanders bagged his first hit and RBI in the seventh with a single up the middle. The Huskies then took advantage of a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch to add two more runs.
Colton Bower brought the boom in the eighth, launching a solo home run to give the Huskies eight runs. Then in the ninth, Casen Taggart smacked his second homer in as many days to give the Huskies 12 total runs.
Peysen Sweeney contributed 2.2 scoreless innings with two punch outs before freshmen duo Micah Bujacich and Tommy Curran made their debuts for the Huskies on the mound. Josh Emanuels closed out the game, earning his second save of the season in his second appearance.
Matthew Henning also made his Washington debut today, starting at second base.
The Huskies returns to action at Stanford on Thursday, February 20 for the first of a four-game series on The Farm.

- Monday was Washington's first multi-home run game of the season (Bower, Taggart)
- Friday's win marked the first victory for head coach Eddie Smith at Washington
- Senior Division III transfer Max Bank threw six scoreless innings along with nine strikeouts on Friday, the most innings pitched by an opening day starter since 2018 (Joe Demers – 6.0 IP) and the most strikeouts by an opening day starter since 2017 (Noah Bremer – 10 Ks)
- 10 of Washington's 19 RBIs have come from transfer players (Casen Taggart - 5, Trevor Kole - 2, Malakhi Knight – 2, Julian Sanders – 1)
- The top four spots of the batting order are responsible for 14 of 22 runs and 14 of 23 hits
