SEATTLE β A B1G new challenge for the Huskies is at hand this weekend, as UW fights for its first ever Big Ten Indoor Championship. Washington heads to Indianapolis for two days of conference competition this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-Mar. 1, at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This will be Washington's first indoor conference championship competition since the MPSF Championships in 2020.
Β
Big Ten Plus and Runnerspace will both be streaming the meet live.
Β
Both Friday and Saturday will start early for West Coasters and be packed with action all day long. Friday's first event is the opening women's pentathlon event, set for 7:10 a.m. Pacific time. The first Friday field event is the men's pole vault at 8:30 a.m., and the first track prelim will be the men's mile at 9 a.m. Events will continue until the women's DMR wraps up day one at 5:45 p.m.
Β
Saturday picks right back up at 7:20 a.m. Pacific with the heptathlon hurdles, and the high jump starts things in the field at 8:10 a.m. The men's mile final is the first track final of the day at 10:20 a.m. Things finish with the women's 4x4 at 2:30 p.m. Pacific.
Β
The Big Ten Championships have all the standard events of the NCAA Indoor Championships, with the exception of adding in a 600-meter event to the slate, making for 18 events per gender.
Β
Individual/relay titles that will be settled on Friday include the men's and women's 5,000-meters, both distance medley relays, the women's pentathlon, men's and women's pole vault, men's and women's long jump, and men's and women's weight throw.
Β
Saturday will see all the remaining track finals, plus the final three heptathlon events, and field event finals in the men's and women's high jump, men's and women's triple jump, and men's and women's shot put.
Β
The Dawgs head into the meet ranked No. 6 nationally on the men's side and a season-high No. 8 on the women's side, but that is a reflection of potential NCAA Championship point scoring, and the conference meet will be a different animal where scoring points from all of the traveling roster will be huge.
Β
In addition to all the conference championship drama, this week will be the final chance for athletes to improve their season-best marks and make the top-16 for NCAA Indoor qualification.
