Β
Washington improves to 26-21 on the season and 14-8 in Big Ten play while Iowa falls to 31-14 overall and 20-5 in conference play.
Β

Β
Max Banks, who is fourth among qualified pitcher in the Big Ten in ERA at 3.33, tossed 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs against three strikeouts. For the Hawkeyes, Cade Obermueller, second in the conference in ERA with 2.42, threw 4.2 innings with two hits allowed, two runs, and nine strikeouts.
Β
Obermueller was pitching well through four innings and the Hawkeyes held a 2-0 advantage when the Huskies came up in the bottom of the frame. Washington loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter, then used two more HBPs by Cooper Whitton and Casen Taggart to tie the game.
Β
Iowa regained the lead with their third run in the sixth inningΒ before Josh Emanuels took the mound for Washington. Once the redshirt senior entered the game, Iowa was unable to find any offensive momentum.
Β
Emanuels earned the win, tossing 3.2 innings while allowing just a single hit, no runs, no walks, and fired off six strikeouts, including oneΒ for each of the three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning.
Β
The Huskies struck back in the seventh when Blake Wilson recorded his first RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly, bringing home Colton Bower to tie the game.
Β
After generating the tying run, Wilson manufactured the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth as well.
Β
To begin the final frame for the Huskies, Malakhi Knight reached on a walk and then stole second base. After an intentional walk of Colton Bower, Knight reached third base on a fly out by Trevor Kole.
Β
With two outs, Knight on third, and Bower on first, Blake Wilson laid down an inch-perfect bunt on the third baseline, bringing home Knight to win the game.
Β
The Huskies will look to claim their sixth Big Ten series on Saturday in game two against Iowa. First pitch is slated for 7:02 p.m.
