
Bower Launches Huskies To Second Straight Walk-Off Win

SEATTLE β The Huskies took the series against Iowa with a second consecutive walk off victory, downing the Hawkeyes 3-1 on Saturday night. Colton Bower launched a two-run home run in the ninth inning to secure the Huskies sixth Big Ten series of the season.

Washington improves to 27-21 on the year and 15-8 in Big Ten contests while Iowa drops to 31-15 and 20-6 in conference games.

The Huskies have now handed Iowa one third of their Big Ten losses this season. Coming into the weekend series, the Hawkeyes had lost only four conference games.

Once again, the Diamond Dawgs used dynamic pitching, including a lights-out effort from the relievers to stifle the visitors.

Jackson Thomas made the start, tossing 5.0 innings of one-run ball. He allowed five hits on the day and struck out two.

Gunnar Nichols and Isaac Yeager provided four innings of shutout baseball to close the game out. Nichols struck out four of the batters he faced and allowed only two hits in his 2.2 innings.

Yeager took over for the final out in the eighth and struck out three of the four batters he faced to keep the game tied at 1-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Malakhi Knight recorded his third hit of the day in three at bats to set the stage for Colton Bower. The Husky catcher had a battle at the plate, working to a full count.

After seven pitches and two fouls, Bower went yard for the sixth time this season, securing the victory for Washington.
