Huskies Drop a Heartbreaker Versus Santa Clara

SEATTLE – Washington Men's tennis drops a heartbreaker of match on this Valentine's Day morning by a score of 3-4. The Dawgs are now 4-4 on the season and 0-1 on the day's doubleheader versus Santa Clara and Portland State. The Huskies will look to respond in the second match of the at 3pm with Portland State. This was the third loss the Huskies have taken in series history vs the Broncos, that all-time record is now 10-3.
In Doubles, 63rd-ranked duo Brett Pearson/Soham Purohit looked at home against a ranked matchup, with a comfortable match against 17th-ranked Luca Bluett/John Kim which ended 4-4, due to the other matches ending 1-6, 3-6.
After dropping the doubles point to go down 0-1, the Huskies battled back and forth for points with the Broncos, as a pair of matches went the full three set distance, with sophomore Rohan Belday and senior Brett Pearson reaching the final set. Ultimately Brett would win the final set 6-4, with Rohan competing until the very end in what would be the final point needed to secure Santa Clara's 4-3 victory.
Providing the early spark for the Dawgs, both 121st ranked junior Soham Purohit and sophomore Stephane Kamendje won their Singles matches in straight sets, with Soham cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 win and Stephane starting and ending fast with a Set 1 win 6-2 and Set 2 win 6-0.
The Dawgs will return to action next at 3:15 PM in Match 2 against Portland State.
