Huskies Sweep Game 2 in Valentine’s Doubleheader
February 14, 2026 | Men's Tennis
UW - 4; PSU - 0
SEATTLE – Washington Men's Tennis decimated a now (2-6) Portland State Vikings side by a score of 4-0 in the second match of the Valentine's Day doubleheader here on Montlake. The Dawgs are now 5-4 on the season and 1-1 on the day's doubleheader versus Santa Clara and Portland State. This was the sixth win for the Huskies, in series history vs the Vikings, that all-time record is now 6-0 and 26-0 against Portland-based programs.
In Doubles, 63rd-ranked duo Brett Pearson/Soham Purohit looked to lead upon the foundation laid in the day's first matchup, winning 6-3, to give the Huskies an early edge in the contest. Not to be outdone, Husky No. 2 duo Stephane Kamendje / Nikola Plavsic followed suit with a 7-5 victory, which cliched the doubles point giving the Dawgs a 1-0 lead, after State's No. 3 pair tied the score one all in the doubles match.
The splattering continued after the Purple and Gold took doubles point to go up 1-0. The Huskies dominated the Vikings from the first serve with five of six singles matches being won in Set 1, leading to an early finish in Set 2, with Rohan Belday clinching the first singles point 6-2, 6-1, followed by Hyeonseok Seo finishing 6-2, 6-2, and Daniel Bien bringing up the rear with a 6-4, 6-2 victory to clinch the match win, 4-0. Once the match was clinched, each member of the starting lineup held a lead.
Head Coach Rahim Esmail had this to say of his team's performance today, "You know, our motto all year has been just grow, work hard, and continue to get better, build as a team, and we did that today." Building on his thoughts, "You know, those 4-3 losses, we've had a few tough ones, but those will eventually start to go our way. As long as we keep doing and focusing on the right things…not letting those tough defeats bring us down, but give us motivation to continue to get better."
The Dawgs will look to get better next week as they have a week off from dual play and return to play the following weekend of Feb. 27th, with the Arizona State Invitational. The Huskies then hit the road for the start of Big Ten play, with a road trip to Illinois, playing both Northwestern and University of Illinois the following week.
