February 28, 2026 | Baseball
SEATTLE – Jackson Thomas and Bryce Johnson combined for 12 strikeouts and just five hits allowed, but the Huskies ultimately fell to San Diego State 3-2 on Saturday night. Washington moves to 1-9 on the season.
Thomas made his first start of the year and had the longest start of any Husky this season. He finished with 6.0 innings pitched and a career-high nine strikeouts.
Thomas allowed four hits and three runs across his six innings of work.
The Diamond Dawgs jumped in front early in the first inning. Casen Taggart connected on a leadoff double and was brought in by a Mic Paul RBI single to put Washington in front.
Neither team scored again until the top of the fifth when San Diego State plated two and then another run in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.
In the eighth inning, the Huskies pulled one run back. Sam DeCarlo started the frame with a double and was eventually brought home by a Daniel Porras groundout.
Washington was unable to find the tying run in the ninth, however.
Bryce Johnson closed out the game in his first relief appearance for the Huskies. The Sammamish native tossed 3.0 scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and striking out three batters.
Washington will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon. Game three between the Huskies and the Aztecs begins at 1 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
