Washington Tied For Third After First Round
March 01, 2026 | Men's Golf
LAS VEGAS – Washington men's golf is one of five teams under par after the first round in a stacked field at the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
UW is tied for third at 5-under (283) at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
"Solid day for us today," head coach Alan Murray said. "The course is really challenging and the wind made it play very tricky. You have to be pretty precise to give yourself opportunities. Everyone was over par early and for three guys to turn it around and shoot under par rounds was really impressive."
Three Dawgs are sitting in a tie for 14th at 2-under (70) in Grady Millar, Emil Herstad and Jacob Goode.
"Really good day for our two freshmen to shoot under par rounds in their first time playing this tournament," Murray said.
Rounding out the top four counting scores was Finn Koelle with a 1-over (73). After starting out with a double-bogey, Koelle bounced back with seven pars and a birdie on the back nine. Jack Murray posted a 4-over (76) to close out the starting five.
"Finn was a little unlucky to end up 1-over par but that is still a solid round on this course." Murray added. "Jack couldn't buy a putt today and I think his game is in good shape."
The Huskies will be paired with Illinois and Pepperdine in the second round beginning at 9:50 a.m. PT off hole No. 1.
"It was a step forward today and the guys have been continually improving," Murray concluded. "We have 36 holes left against a strong field and we are looking forward to getting back out there again tomorrow. These conditions are exactly what we will see as the spring progresses, and we will continue too."
