Jackson Hotchkiss Goes 3-4 With Two Runs Batted In As Huskies Fall To Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Washington dropped its Big Ten opener on Friday afternoon, falling to Indiana 4-2. The Huskies move to 3-10 and 0-1 in Big Ten play.
Jackson Hotchkiss made his first start of the season as the designated hitter in Friday's game and he started hot. The sophomore was responsible for driving in both of Washington's runs.
In his first at bat of the season, he tagged an RBI double, bringing Casen Taggart around to score from first base. In the top of the fourth, he launched his first home run of the season, putting Washington in front 2-1.
Hotchkiss added a single in the ninth to finish his day 3-4 from the plate.
Noah Kenney made his third start for the Huskies, allowing just one run through four innings of work. In the fifth, Indiana tied the game at two before plating two more in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Kenney finished his day with 6.0 innings pitched, eight hits, four runs, three of which were earned, three walks, and seven strikeouts.
Carson Boesel closed out the game for Washington, throwing the seventh and eighth innings allowing zero hits and just one runner on base due to a walk.
Offensively, Casen Taggart chipped in two hits while Mic Paul and Ethan Swidler both added singles. The Huskies had seven total knocks on the day, only one behind Indiana's eight.
Washington will look to punch back on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT in game two of the series.
