Washington Drops Series Finale To Minnesota
April 11, 2026 | Baseball
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After a lengthy delay, the Huskies fell in game three to the Golden Gophers on Saturday evening in Minneapolis, 5-4.
Washington moves to 16-20 and 7-8 in Big Ten play with the result.
The two teams moved up their first pitch time by 30 minutes, but still had to battle weather for much of Saturday. Despite starting the game at 12:30 p.m. PT, the second inning of the contest wasn't completed until after 5:30 p.m. PT.
Following a nearly four-hour rain delay followed by a 30-minute lightning delay, the Big Ten matchup restarted in the bottom of the second inning.
Hayden Lewis earned the start and pitched the first inning of the contest and started the second, but the game was put into a rain delay before he could record an out in the second frame. He finished his day with 1.0 innings pitched while facing just four batters, allowing one hit and one run.
After the long break, Gunnar Nichols took over on the mound. The senior finished his day with 5.1 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, four runs, and three strikeouts. Nichols would ultimately be credited with the loss on the day.
Colton Bower went 2-4 on the day, recording two of Washington's six hits. Bower also had one of the Huskies' four RBIs on the day.
Landon Young led the team in RBIs, driving in two of the four runs with a triple in the fifth inning.
Jackson Hotchkiss, Blake Wilson, and Ty Cowan each had hits on the day as well.
Tommy Brandenburg closed out the game. Throwing 1.2 innings with just one hit allowed to close the contest.
Washington is back in action on Tuesday, April 14 at Seattle U at 4 p.m. PT. Following the midweek game, the Huskies host Michigan State for three games at Husky Ballpark.
