SEATTLE – Sofia Cosculluela capped off one of the best heptathlons in Husky history today and took the top spot in the NCAA with her score at the Mt. SAC Relays. Redshirt freshman Teko Cates also completed an impressive first collegiate decathlon, and the Huskies had more impressive marks in the javelin, and in distance races at the Bryan Clay Invite.
Mt. SAC Relays Recap
Cosculluela, the Spanish product from Madrid, had a great day one on Wednesday with PRs in the shot put and 200-meters. She started with a big mark in the long jump, going 20-5, to improve to No. 5 in school history in that event. She threw the javelin 130-1, not one of her best marks, but she bounced back in the final 800-meters with a career-best time of 2:16.15.
That all added up to 6,093 points, breaking her lifetime-best of 6,017. It was just a bit shy of Ida Eikeng's School Record of 6,114 from 2023, but it currently leads the NCAA and ranks seventh in the world in 2026.
Cates opened his decathlon day two with a 15.55 time in the 110m hurdles, then threw the discus 135-5. In the pole vault, Cates cleared 14-9. His first javelin in two years ended with a mark of 140-6, and he ran the final 1,500-meters in 4:56.17. Overall, Cates scored 7,443 points, going to No. 9 in school history.
In the women's javelin invite section, Ashley Schroeder backed up her School Record from two weeks ago by launching another big mark, just a foot short of her record, at a distance of 174-feet, 7-inches. Saydi Orange also had the second-best mark of her career at 167-9, and Leonie Troeger threw a season-best 155-0.
Carson Olmstead was fourth in the men's javelin invite section with a best of 217-8.
Bryan Clay Invitational Recap
Isaac Briggs ran a second-straight PR in the steeplechase, and more impressively he took the win in his section with a time of 8:38.10, which moves him up one spot to No. 7 in Husky history.
Josephine Welin also broke into the women's steeplechase top-10 list with a PR of 10:16.98.
Cruize Corvin came up just a second off his steeple PR with a time of 8:54.04.
