
Huskies to Welcome No. 20 Michigan State and No. 45 Michigan to Montlake for a Pair of Big Ten Matches

SEATTLE - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team (8-11) returns to Montlake this weekend, with Big Ten action against No. 20 Michigan State (11-7) and against No. 45 Michigan (7-9). After last weekend's, 1-1 roadtrip results against Nebraska and Wisconsin, the Huskies will look to continue their improved form against the gauntlet that is the Big Ten. The matchup against the Spartans of Michigan State University is set to take place Friday, April 3rd, at 5 pm, while the match against the Wolverines of the University of Michigan is set to take place Sunday, April 5th, at 12 pm PT, with both taking place from the Quillian Tennis Stadium, dependent on weather.

Weather Report
In what should be the first outdoor home duel of the season for the men's team, the weather report at the time of writing couldn't be better for this time of year. As for the Friday evening match, at the time of first serve, the temperature will be 57°F, with moderate winds at 10 mph, with a 0% chance of rain. For Sunday's noon match with Michigan, we expect temperatures in the mid-60s at the first serve, with winds of up to 12 mph, and a 4% chance of rain. Husky History against the Spartans
This matchup will be the second meeting between Washington and the Spartans this season, but the first for the Dawgs at home as members of the Big Ten. This will be the 5th meeting in series history between the Huskies and Spartans, with the series being tied at 2-2 with the result from earlier this season at the Diablo Invitational being the tying result that went in Michigan State's favor. In last seasons's matchup from East Lancing, the Huskies would, fall 5-2. Of note, Rohan Belday recorded a match win from a three set match to give the Huskies one of their two points.
Husky History against the Wolverines
In the second match of the weekend, Michigan's first since Washington joined the Big Ten, the Wolverines will square off against the Huskies for the 12th time. Michigan holds a 9-2 lead in the series, with most recently defeating the Huskies last season in Ann Arbor, 4-3.
Husky Stats of Note
Coming into this weekend, Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit have returned to form from Doubles. Going undefeated in the past two matches, winning both last weekend against Nebraska and and Wisconsin while also winning three of the past five, the only loss being to Oregon's No. 34 M. Burton/Mouesca, 6-4.
From singles, freshman Hyeonseok Seo recorded his second career game clinching match in a thriller to upset Nebraska this past weekend. From game clinching matches, the South Korean native is 2-1 on the year, as he clinched the match against Tulane in the second match of the Diablo Invitational in February.
Michigan State Scouting Report
Michigan State enters the Friday matchup ranked 20th with a 11-7 record, with a trio of player ranked in singles: No. 13, No. 33, and No. 51. From Doubles, Michigan State has a pair of duos ranked: No. 27 and No. 54 The Spartans are coming off a weekend in with they played No. 24 USC and No. 20 UCLA, in which they defeated both by a score or 4-3 and 4-2. Michigan State currently holds an eight match unbeaten run, with their last loss comin to then ranked No. 15 Arizona on March 3rd. This run is in contrast to how they opened the season, dropping five straight before the Diablo Invitational.
Michigan Scouting Report
Michigan enters the Sunday matchup ranked at 45th with an 7-9 record, with a pair of players ranked: No. 10 and No. 86 from singles; along with a single pairing from doubles the No. 16 duo. The Maize and Gold are also coming off a weekend against West Coast opposition in which they played No. 20 UCLA and No. 24 USC, having lost both matches, 2-4 and 1-4 respectively. Prior to these losses, Michigan has split each weekend since Big Ten play began.
UP NEXT
Washington will take to the road for their final Big Ten roadtrip of the season next weekend. As the Dawgs wil be headed to the Northeast, with a pair of matches scheduled in University Park, PA against Pennsylvania State University and in Coloumbus, OH for a matchup with the Ohio State University. The match with the Nittany Lions is scheduled for 2pm PT / 5pm local on Friday the 10th, while the contest against the Buckeyes is set for 9am PT / 12 pm local on Sunday the 12th.
