Huskies Drop Heartbreaker To Michigan
April 24, 2026 | Baseball
Washington moves to 18-23 and 8-11 in Big Ten play.
Casen Taggart and Jackson Hotchkis got the offense started early for Washington. The Husky first baseman laced his third home run in the last four games to open the scoring in the second inning.
Taggart has been hot of late, batting .462 over his last four games with three home runs and five RBIs. His latest bomb went 374 feet.
Jackson Hotchkiss kept the momentum going, smoking the second Husky homer of the game just one inning later. The sophomore's blast brought in two more runs, putting the Huskies up 3-0.
Hotchkiss' 412-foot bomb was his team-leading 14th of the year. He's now just two home runs away from eighth place in the single season record book.
Noah Kenney had another strong start, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Wolverines took a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh, plating three runs.
Washington responded in the next frame, scoring four runs. Mic Paul drove in one on an RBI single, Braeden Terry brought in another on a bases-loaded walk, and then Hotchkiss connected for a two-RBI single to put the Dawgs up 7-4 heading into the bottom half.
Michigan couldn't score in the eighth but found an answer in the ninth. The Wolverines scored four runs, including a three-RBI double to end the game.
Jackson Hotchkiss and Casen Taggart each had two hits on the day to lead the team while Hotchkiss had a total of four RBIs.
Washington will look to bounce back in game two on Saturday. The Huskies and Wolverines will meet at 11 a.m. PT at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor.
