Hee's Homer Helps Huskies To 8-2 Win
March 02, 2018 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #1 Washington Huskies tied their best start ever with a 8-2 win over the Northwestern Wildcats Friday, moving to 20-0 on the season. Noelle Hee hit her third home run of the season in the game while Kelly Burdick reached base all three plate appearances to help the Huskies to the win.
Samantha Manti, Taran Alvelo, and Gabbie Plain all saw action in the game. Alvelo would get the win in relief to move to 10-0 on the season.
After Northwestern scored in the first inning, Manti retired the next seven batters she faced, stringing together four consecutive strikeouts in that time as well.
Northwestern's lead lasted just over an inning, however, as Hee's three-run homer in the second flew over the leftfield wall in a hurry to give Washington the lead for good. Julia DePonte would homer in the third inning to add to that lead, the second time in two games on the day that DePonte went yard.
Burdick helped create runs in the fourth and sixth with leadoff singles each inning. Taylor Van Zee's double brought Burdick home in the fourth inning to make it a 5-1 lead.
After Burdick singled to start the sixth inning, the Husky pressure of Northwestern caused a litany of errors. Washington would score three runs on three Northwestern errors in the frame as the Huskies stretched their lead to 8-2 after the Wildcats scored in the top of the sixth.
Plain would work a scoreless seventh to end the game, getting the swinging strikeout for an exclamation point on the win.
