Gonzaga Seals Series With 8-7 Win Over Washington
March 15, 2025 | Baseball
SEATTLE โ Washington's offense sputtered through the early innings and the Huskies saw its comeback fall just short Saturday, falling to Gonzaga 8-7 on a rain soaked evening at Husky Ballpark.
ย
Starter Jackson Thomas received the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings.
ย
The Bulldogs threatened to jump ahead from the get go, loading the bases with one out in the first. Instead Thomas induced a pop up to Bower behind the plate and a soft grounder to escape.
ย
However, Washington was unable to spark its offense in the ensuing innings and Gonzaga broke through in the sixth to breakup the tie.
ย
With two outs in the frame, the Bulldogs strung together six-straight hits, plating six runs to take the lead.
ย
After a 1-2-3 bottom half, Gonzaga tacked on another run in the seventh, going up 7-0.
ย
A single and a pair of walks in the home half of the seventh filled the bags and freshman Jackson Hotchkiss cashed in with a bases-clearing double just inside the right foul line. However, the rookie was caught trying to stretch it into a triple, ending the rally.
ย
After Gonzaga added a run of insurance in the ninth, UW rallied with four in the bottom half to pull within one. However, the rally fell short as the Huskies left the winning run on second to end the ballgame.
ย
UW and Gonzaga will conclude the series on Sunday, squaring off at 1:02 p.m. PT. The game will be available for streaming on BigTenPlus.com.
