March 28, 2026 | Track & Field
TACOMA, Wash. – Visiting the South Sound for their outdoor opener, Washington track and field athletes racked up 15 event wins in their one local appearance of the season, at the University of Puget Sound's Peyton-Shotwell Invitational.
Two weeks since the end of the indoor season, the Huskies had about half their squad in action, with some 2026 season debuts along with other athletes switching to their outdoor-specific event specialties. UW also had a pair of new top-10 marks for the recordbook to start things out, with Ava Washburn going to No. 5 in the women's long jump and Alex Rhodes going to No. 10 in the men's 200-meters.
Sprints and Hurdles
Rhodes, and NCAA D-III Champion for the UPS Loggers last year, returned to his old stomping grounds and notched a big PR to win the 200-meters in 20.83 seconds, going to 10th in Husky history.
In the women's 200-meters, sophomore Mikayla Gardley made her season debut and took the win in a time of 24.66 seconds. Rhonda Newton was fifth in 25.61.
