Schroeder, Thomas, Jenkins Break Records At Stanford
April 03, 2026 | Track & Field
STANFORD, Calif. – The farthest women's javelin throw and the fastest men's and women's 10,000-meter runs in UW history all took place over twelve hours of action at the Stanford Invitational today. The outdoor track season hit full stride as UW had nine new marks for the top-10 lists led by the School Records from Ashley Schroeder (javelin), Chloe Thomas (10,000-meters) and Evan Jenkins (10,000-meters).
Just before noon at Cobb Track & Angell Field, Schroeder broke a 15-year-old record in the javelin with her first throw of the year, as she surpassed her own personal record by 15 feet with a mark of 175-feet, 10-inches.
It was nearly 10 p.m. when the next records came one after another. Thomas got under Izzi Batt-Doyle's 2019 School Record in the 10k by one second, running 32:19.59. In the following men's race, Evan Jenkins lowered his own School Record with a time of 28:03.51.
Sprints and Hurdles
Junior Alex Rhodes made a statement with a dominant victory in the 400-meters in one of the fastest times ever run by a Husky. Rhodes, the former D-III national champion who split a sub-45 on the UW DMR 400m leg last month, ran a career-best time of 45.22 today to win by nearly a full second. That time leads the NCAA based on marks entering the weekend, and it ranks No. 3 in UW history and is the fastest since 2008.
Later in the day, Rhodes also ran the 200-meters in 21.32 seconds.
Jonathan Frazier dropped a big PR in the prelims of the 110m hurdles, running 14.26 to better his old best of 14.46.
Frazier was back later in the afternoon in the 400m hurdles and took fourth overall in a time of 51.88. Bodi Ligons was sixth in a time of 52.52.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Anna Terrell finished 13th overall in a time of 1:00.72.
Distances
They saved the best for last. The late night 10k's at Stanford delivered elite fields and fast times as usual, with the Huskies coming away with two new School Records.
Thomas, who set the UW indoor 5,000m record this year and qualified for NCAA Indoors, had run 10k in cross country but never on the track. She crossed that off the bucket list tonight in 32:19.59 to edge past former All-American and Australian Olympian Izzi Batt-Doyle's 32:20.84 time from 2019.
Also in that same heat, senior Maeve Stiles went to No. 7 in school history with a time of 33:07.79.
Evan Jenkins then covered the 25 laps in 28:03.51. Like Thomas, that was almost exactly one second faster than the old record, which Jenkins set himself two years ago at this same meet.
Tyrone Gorze also ran a 10k time of 29:31.93 and Parker Mong ran his first 10k in 30:28.33.
Multiple Husky All-America mid-distance runners made their outdoor season debuts today. In the top heat of the women's 1,500-meters, Chloe Foerster opened with a speedy time of 4:11.44, and Jenica Swartz posted a 4:13.79. Chloe Symon also moved up in distance to the 1,500m and ran 4:27.25.
Tyler Bilyard and Martin Barco in the men's invitational section both ran season-opening 3:40 times. Bilyard posted a 3:40.19 and Barco went 3:40.53, just a second off his PR.
In the top heat of the women's 5,000-meters, Julia David-Smith and Mia Cochran both ticked off times that should be safe West Prelim qualifiers. Both were just a second or two off their personal-bests. David-Smith ran a time of 15:38.76, and Cochran crossed in 15:41.53.
Reuben Reina led several Husky men in the 5k as he lowered his PR down to 13:33.54, going to No. 5 in Husky history. Thom Diamond, in his first race since taking fifth in the NCAA Indoor mile final, moved up to the 5k and ran 14:01.43. Nathan Neil posted a time of 14:08.25 and Jamar Distel ran 14:10.38.
Josephine Welin ran her first full steeplechase today, turning in a time of 10:27.72 for ninth in the second section.
In the men's steeple, Isaac Briggs broke into the Husky top-10 for the first time, running 8:39.85 to put his name at No. 8 in school history. Cruize Corvin also took four seconds off his PR, going 8:53.49.
The morning 5,000-meter sections featured a few Dawgs. James Crabtree posted a time of 14:11.45 and Josiah Tostenson ran 14:20.23 for the men. Ella Borsheim went 17:08.59.
Will Schneider ran 3:55.03 in section seven of the 1,500-meters.
Throws
The first School Record of the outdoor season was taken down by Ashley Schroeder, who shattered her career-best in the javelin in her very first trip down the runway this season. Schroeder, who came in with a PR of 160-1, lined one up and sent it 175-feet, 10-inches, breaking the old record of 174-2 set in 2011 by Amanda Peterson.
Schroeder would also deliver a 170-10 mark on her sixth-round throw and a 166-11 toss in round four, giving her three throws today well beyond her previous best.
But right behind Schroeder was junior Saydi Orange, who returned to action in a thrilling way after nearly two years since her last competition. Orange suffered an injury in April of 2024 that kept her out for all of 2025. Finally back in her Husky singlet, Orange launched a PR of 173-8 in the fourth round, breaking her old best by a whopping 11 feet. That puts Orange up to No. 3 in UW history behind Schroeder's new record and Peterson's old best.
The javelin PR train continued into the men's invite section, with Carson Olmstead opening up his season with a new lifetime-best toss of 227-0 on his third throw of the afternoon. That was a five-foot PR and good for second-place on the day.
Leonie Troeger also opened up on the women's side with a mark of 145-4.
Multis
Sofia Cosculluela led all hurdlers in the women's 100m hurdle prelims with a season's-best time of 13.60 seconds. From there she went to the long jump and finished fourth overall with a strong mark of 19-11. Finally, Cosculluela returned to the track and ran the 200-meters in 24.33 seconds for 12th overall.
Teko Cates had an outstanding day as he continues to work towards a full decathlon later this season. He started in the 110m hurdles where he ran a PR of 15.27 seconds. Then came a huge performance to win the invite long jump section. Cates had only long jumped once indoors, but had an impressive 24-5 3/4 PR in that one competition. Today he outdid that by a full foot. In round three, Cates had a PR of 24-8 1/2, then he surpassed 25-feet for the first time on attempt four, going 25-2 1/2, and one round later, he leaped 25-5 1/4. That mark ranks No. 6 in the NCAA this year and also No. 6 all-time at UW.
Cates still had the discus to see to, and he threw 135-8 to finish up an impressive day.
Dawg Bites
- Ava Washburn grabbed a long jump best today of 19-7
- Leland Lieberg made 6-5 1/2 in the high jump to finish fifth.
