Huskies Clinch First B1G Series With Double Dubs Over Northwestern
March 07, 2026 | Softball
SEATTLE – The Washington softball team (18-6, 2-0 Big Ten) earned two wins and a series victory on Saturday over Northwestern at Husky Softball Stadium.
The Huskies played two and a half innings Friday night in the Big Ten opener before rain ultimately halted the matchup. The Dawgs were up 7-0 in the bottom of the third when the game was suspended, with the remainder of the game played out Saturday afternoon.
Game one of the series was the seventh straight run rule victory for Washington, who defeated Seattle U 11-3 in six innings earlier this week and picked up five consecutive run rule wins in San Diego last weekend.
Game 1 – No. 22 Washington vs. Northwestern
The Huskies scored three in the first and four in the second inning on Friday night before the game was halted, while Morgan Reimer kept Northwestern without a hit through the first three innings.
The first score came when Ally Hetzel doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the opening frame to bring in Alexis DeBoer. Ava Carroll then stepped up and singled to center to bring in Hetzel.
A batter later, Jade Bubke shot a single to right center to bring home Carroll.
Jadyn Glab and Giselle Alvarez each notched singles in the bottom of the second to bring in two more runs. The next two runs the Huskies walked in, first with Bubke earning a walk and then Sophi Mazzola getting hit by a pitch to walk in another run.
Up 7-0 in the bottom of the third, the game resumed on Saturday afternoon with Kaycie Burdick on first base and no outs.
DeBoer earned a walk before Alvarez stepped up and sent a long ball out to deep center field, notching a three-RBI home run to bring the Husky lead to double digits, 10-0.
Northwestern finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when a Wildcat hit a two-RBI triple to bring in NU's only two runs of the contest.
In the final inning, Melody Acevedo walked, Kaycie Burdick singled to center, then DeBoer came in and slammed a three-RBI homer to bring the UW lead to 11.
The Wildcats notched a hit in the top of the fifth, but the Huskies held on.
Game 2 – No. 22 Washington vs. Northwestern
Compared to the offensive onslaught that was the opening game for Washington, it was a different story in game two.
The first score of the second game didn't come until the bottom of the sixth. Alvarez hit a single, just the third hit of the game for Washington, then a pair of Northwestern errors helped score pinch runner Jing Gardner and DeBoer.
Sophia Ramuno, Allie Thomsen and Ryan Maddox all saw time in the circle, with Thomsen picking up her first career win.
The Dawgs have secured the series win with two victories today and will play the final game against Northwestern Sunday at 1 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium.
