SECOND SEASON UNDER SMITH
On July 9, 2024, Eddie Smith was named the 25th head coach of University of Washington baseball, announced by UW Director of Athletics Pat Chun. Smith, a native of Olympia, Washington, comes to Montlake after three seasons at Utah Valley. Smith begins his second season at the helm of the Huskies in 2026.
UP NEXT
The Huskies host No. 1 UCLA for a three-game series at Husky Ballpark starting on Thursday. The series has postseason implications for the Dawgs who can secure a spot in the Big Ten baseball tournament with at least one win in the series.
B1G TOURNAMENT
Washington is looking for a second consecutive berth to the Big Ten Tournament after making the trip as the No. 5 seed in 2025, the team's first season in the conference. The Huskies sit in 12th, with the top 12 teams advancing to Omaha. With a win over UCLA, Washington can secure a spot in the tournament.
SPLIT THE DOUBLEHEADER AT PENN STATE
Washington took game one 5-4 and fell in game two 6-4 in a doubleheader against Penn State on Friday.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one and held the one-run advantage for 4.5 innings. In the bottom of the fifth, the Nittany Lions scored on a two-run home run to jump in front, 2-1. The Huskies scored on a groundout in the seventh to tie the game before Ethan Swidler tagged a three-run home run in the eighth to put the Dawgs back in the lead. It would be just enough for the Huskies to absorb another two-run home run from Penn State in the bottom half of that inning.
The Huskies hung on to secure a 5-4 win in the series opener, thanks in large part to 6.0 innings of work from Jackson Thomas and Swidler's three-run blast. Colton Bower saw his first action since April 11, batting as the designated hitter. He started the day 2-2 with two doubles. Six of Washington's nine hits were for extra bases, including Washington's 17th triple, Braeden Terry's team-leading fourth three-bagger of the year.
Tommy Brandenburg was credited with the win while Carson Boesel earned his first save of the year.

With his 18th home run of the year, Hotchkiss moves up to No. 7 in the Husky record books for the most home runs in a single season, in a tie with Will Simpson (18 home runs in 2023). The single season record is 22 from Chad Boudon in 2003.
