Huskies Thump No. 1 UCLA, Win Series Opener 8-0
May 14, 2026 | Baseball
SEATTLE – Washington earned its most impressive victory of the season on Friday, dismantling No. 1 UCLA 8-0 at Husky Ballpark.
Washington improves to 23-29 overall and 12-16 in Big Ten play.
The Huskies earn their first win over a No. 1 opponent since defeating No. 1 Oregon State on March 25 in 2018. It's also the Bruins' first road loss of the season, their second conference loss, and just their sixth loss overall.
With the win, Washington clinches a berth to next week's Big Ten Tournament.
The Huskies didn't back down when facing the top-ranked team in the nation and turned in a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the Huskies allowed just three hits while earning the shutout.
Jackson Thomas diced up the Bruins offense. The senior right-hander claimed his second win of the year while throwing 6.0 innings with just three hits and four walks allowed against two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Dawgs started the scoring in the fourth inning with Colton Bower's first home run of the day. He launched a solo shot to left field, going 368 feet and 107 miles per hour off the bat.
It would be the first hit of a busy day for Bower, who finished 3-4 with two home runs, a triple, three runs scored and three RBI.
The Huskies did the bulk of their damage in the fifth inning, hanging a five on the scoreboard. Casen Taggart, Braeden Terry, and Sam DeCarlo each tallied an RBI before Colton Bower did more damage.
Washington's designated Hitter blasted his second bomb of the day, this one 394 feet the center to bring the Huskies up to a 6-0 lead.
Bower would score the next run for the Huskies as well, coming home on a wild pitch after hitting a triple in the seventh. Braeden Terry closed out the scoring in the eighth, sending home Swidler on a sacrifice fly.
Gunnar Nichols took over for Thomas on the mound in the seventh and was dominant. The senior righthander didn't allow a single hit over his three innings and had just one baserunner.
He earned his first save of the season while striking out three batters in the contest.
In total, Washington finished with nine hits, five of which were for extra bases. Bower led the way with three knocks, while Blake Wilson and Braeden Terry each had two.
The Huskies will look to build on the win tomorrow as they face No. 1 UCLA again at 6 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
