SEATTLE – Eugene, Oregon is once again the final stop for the NCAA's best and brightest track stars, and a group of sixteen Huskies have made it to Hayward Field to chase championships this Wednesday through Saturday. Oregon plays host to the NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 10-13) with Washington second its second-most qualifiers since the 2010 season.
Washington is ranked No. 15 nationally on the women's side and brings nine women who will look to earn a second-straight Top-10 finish for the women's team. The UW women were fourth at this meet a year ago, the best finish in program history.
The Husky men's team has seven qualifiers set to go. The UW men finished 30th last season, which broke a streak of three-straight Top-25 finishes, so the Dawgs will try and get a new streak started.
The schedule alternates genders each day, with the exception of the multi-events. Wednesday and Friday will feature the men's events, while Thursday and Saturday focus on the women. The men's decathlon, featuring Husky redshirt freshman Teko Cates, goes Wednesday and Thursday, and the women's heptathlon, with UW's Sofia Cosculluela, covers Friday and Saturday.
Each day of the meet will be televised live on ESPN or ESPN2, starting with the first running event each evening. Field events will have separate streams on ESPN+
Every track event in Eugene from the 100-meters up to the 3,000m steeplechase will have two rounds; a semifinal on day one, and the final on day two. The 5,000-meters and 10,000-meters are straight finals with all 24 qualifiers in one race.
All athletes except the multis advanced to Eugene out of the West Prelims or East Prelims, by advancing through one or two races, or through the field event battles, to finish in the top-12 in each region from a starting group of 48. The multi-events were chosen from the top-24 season-best marks.
Team scores are compiled by individuals and relays finishing in the top-eight in their events. Points for the top eight places are the standard 10 for first-place, 8 for second, then 6-5-4-3-2-1 for third-through-eighth. The USTFCCCA All-America format remains the same this season, as the top-eight finishers in every event will be named First Team All-Americans, the 9-16 finishers will be Second Team All-Americans, and 17-24 will be honorable mention.
