SEATTLE - First baseman Ed Erickson, the only senior on the Washington baseball team, had a home run, two doubles and seven runs batted in to lead the Huskies to a 14-2 win over Portland Wednesday evening at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies improved to 9-13 on the season while the Pilots fell to 13-11.
In the third inning, Erickson's two-run double broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Huskies a lead they'd never lose. In the fourth, Erickson's two-run homer, his fourth of the year, and a two-run triple from freshman Tyler Davidson were in the big blows in a six-run outburst. Erickson capped his day with a three-run double in the seventh inning.
Sophomore lefty Zack Daniels (1-1) allowed only one earned run on three hits while striking out seven in five innings for the win. Four Husky reliever held the Pilots to an infield single over the final four innings. UP starter Justin Ballweber (1-1) gave up three earned runs in two and one-third innings in the loss.
For the game, the Huskies earned a total of 12 bases on balls and were hit by a pitch three times. Washington also stole six bases in seven tries.
Both of Portland's runs came in the first. Gavin Hare led off with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch and Cory Lunde singled and was driven home on a Matt Allen groundout. For the game, Pilot batters struck out 13 times.
The Huskies play their first home Pac-10 series of the year this Friday through Sunday when the California Golden Bears come to Husky Ballpark.
