SEATTLE - The Oregon State baseball team scored four runs in the eighth to pull ahead and beat Washington, 13-9, in a non-conference game Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
With the victory, the Beavers evened their record at 6-6 while Washington fell to 3-7.
With the score tied at 9-9 with two outs and nobody on base in the seventh, the Beavers had seven straight batters reach base. Four straight RBI singles off of UW reliever Taylor Grant gave OSU a 13-9 lead it would never lose.
Both Drew Hedges and Joe Gerber collected four hits for Oregon State. Hedges had a double and a solo home run while Gerber belted two doubles and drove in three.
OSU reliever James Atwood (2-2) worked the final three innings, allowing no runs on two hits, for the win. Grant (1-1) took the loss. UW starter Jeff Carlsen surrendered seven runs over the first three innings, but had retired 11 in a row before giving up the homer to Hedges to lead off the seventh.
Washington got a three-run homer from third baseman Michael Done and two hits apiece from Todd Linden, Jay Garthwaite and Jefferson Thiel. Center fielder Marc Rittenhouse also added a double and three RBI.
The Beavers and Huskies wrap up the two-game non-league series Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
