Seven-Run Ninth Propels Huskies to Fifth-Straight Win, Sweep of Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – Trailing 5-2 heading into the top half of the ninth inning, the University of Washington baseball team (5-2) rallied to plate seven runs in the final frame to defeat Fresno State (2-4), 9-6, and complete the series sweep Sunday at Bob Bennett Stadium. With the victory, the Huskies move their winning streak to five games.

"Really proud of the way our guys hung in there," said head coach Lindsay Meggs. "It was a long trip, and a long weekend. Once Ramon got on in the ninth, he gave us life. It's nice to know we can find a way to win on the road. It was a great weekend for us."

After a scoreless first two innings, the host Bulldogs struck in the third with a two-run home run before tacking on another in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.

The Huskies cut into the deficit in the fifth when Karl Koerper blasted a solo home run and Noah Hsue drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to score Ramon Bramasco to make the score 3-2.

Fresno State stretched the lead back to two (4-2) in the home half of the fifth and added another run in the eighth to push its lead to 5-2 heading into the ninth.

After a groundout to start the final frame, the Huskies strung four-consecutive base knocks and three-straight walks together to score four runs and go on top, 6-5. Karl Koerper followed that with a sacrifice fly – his second RBI on the day – to score Preston Viltz and Tommy Williams added a two-out, two-run double to give UW a 9-5 advantage.

Davis Delorefice surrendered a home run but struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to close the door and give the Huskies the win and series sweep.

Dylan Lamb (2-0) picked up the win on the bump, fanning three in two innings of relief work. Logan Gerling got the start on the hill and worked the first 3 1/3 innings.

Ramon Bramasco finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a pair of runs, while Noah Hsue posted two RBI.

UW will return to Seattle to open its home slate next weekend when UC Irvine comes to town for a three-game series. First pitch at Husky Ballpark is slated for 6:05 p.m. Friday in the home opener.
